The above will be read by the system and interpretated as a command to display an image file. Now the smart ones wil be asking 'Well why hasn't it then?' Well that's because this message board (annoyingly at times) wraps everything we write in another HTML command, the paragraph or <P> command, and at the same time it turns what you see as a '<' character for instance, into a meaningless (to the system) set of characters. Try typing a message and pressing the '<>' key to show the actual HTML.
That's why when I press return, it not only does a line return, it adds a carriage feed as well.
